I used to sneak
to the bathroom
to hold my fingernails
under cold water.
Water makes things grow.
If trees can grow,
so can my nails.
I stopped biting my nails once
because I was trying to lose weight
because I thought I was in love
because bright nail polish gives me dopamine.
